Artist’s Statement
I was born in Vancouver, and moved to Kelowna with my family when I was vey young. After finishing high school I lived in various parts of the province and was married along the way. Eventually we moved back to Kelowna where I was employed by the School District for many years.
I have taken a few workshops over the years, but am primarily self taught, I have always marveled at the beaty of what surrounds us in whatever form it takes, which awakened in me a desire to replicate what I saw on canvas. The starting point and foundation of any effort needs to be a balanced and meaningful composition that can be developed into a work that communicates to the viewer an understanding of the subject in a meaningful and interesting way.
I focus mainly on still life, but also have painted landscapes, seascapes, and the human form. I feel I’m always at the beginning, and just scratching the surface of an endless number of possibilities. Perhaps most artists feel the same way, that there’s always much more we want to say.
I began painting professionally in 2000, having my work displayed in galleries, and I’ve entered my work in a few juried shows. A number of my pieces have found homes in Alberta, Ontario and California.
